Commercial barbecue sauces are usually highly processed and often contain high-fructose corn syrup, sodium benzoate, and other undesirable additives. You will enjoy this additive-free barbecue sauce created by Svetlana Scherba.
Ingredients:
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 tablespoons virgin, cold-pressed olive oil
½-teaspoon basil
¼-teaspoon oregano
¼-teaspoon marjoram
Two 28-ounce cans of whole tomatoes, with juice
½-cup homemade ketchup
¼ cup Florida crystal organic sugar
1 & ½ teaspoons salt
Directions:
1. In a large saucepan, sauté the onion and garlic with the seasonings in oil until the vegetables are lightly colored.
2. Place tomatoes with juice in a blender and blend until smooth.
3. Add tomatoes, ketchup, sugar, and salt to the saucepan, and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes or more until the desired consistency.
Makes 4 cups
