Ingredients:
½ cup warm water
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon yeast
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup hot water
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup cold-pressed oil
2 tablespoons organic brown sugar or honey
½ cup organic whole wheat flour
1 ½ cups unbleached white flour
Sesame seeds (optional)
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water. In a separate bowl combine oats, hot water, salt, oil, and sugar. Let soak for at least ½ hour.
Before adding the flour, pour the yeast mixture into the oat mixture. Stir together and then stir in flour to make a soft dough, but leave sticky. (This dough will be too sticky to work with your hands).
Turn dough out onto a well-floured surface and freely sprinkle flour on top of dough. Smooth flour out over the surface and then roll out dough about ¾ inch thick.
Cut out biscuits with cutter (or empty tin can or glass with narrow rim).
Place on oiled cookie sheet and bake for 25 – 35 minutes at 350 degrees F.
